Craft is the language of material, provenance, and making. It is learning the value of things than just their price. In order to move forward as contemporary designers and establish a cultural strong design aesthetic in young designers and students, it is imperative that we look around us and look at the past to understand our Cultural context. Craft being the "IT" industry of the 21st century must not just be studied from an academic perspective but must be promoted to achieve economic growth. With this in mind, TNcrafts has been created. 

TNcrafts or Tamil Nadu Crafts is an initiative by the Department of Fashion Communication, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai to document various craft traditions of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry with inputs from students of FC VI in the year 2017.

The Department of Fashion Communication, National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai was established in the year 2013. The course imparts state of the art education to aspiring Graphic Designers, Photographers, Visual Merchandisers, Advertising Professionals and Fashion Journalists. The versatile talents of the first batch (2013-2017) paint a dynamic picture of skill, technique and academic exploration – showcased in splashes of brilliance through this blog space.
